Description

The Caernarfon Harbour Trust Offices is a symmetrical late-Georgian building constructed in 1840. It features a two-storey central bay with a gabled roof, flanked by single-storey wings that each have two windows. The building is made of ashlar stone, with rusticated quoins on the central bay and a rock-faced plinth on the right side, where the ground level is lower. The roof is covered with slate and has a moulded eaves cornice, with a coped gable on the central bay and hipped roofs on the outer bays.

The central bay has two chimney stacks, one on the right and one on the left, each with three octagonal shafts. It also features an octagonal wooden cupola with vented sides, topped with an ogee domed lead roof and a weathervane dated 1840. The doorway in the central bay has a half-lit panelled door with side and overlights, set within a shallow canted bay. Above the door is an inscription panel that also bears the date 1840. The upper storey contains a 12-pane hornless sash window. The pedimented gable projects on a corbel table and includes a round iron clock face in a moulded surround.

The symmetrical wings each have 12-pane horned sash windows and central gabled porches. The left porch has a lead roof, while the right porch has a stone slab roof. Both porches feature fielded-panel doors, with the left having an overlight.

On the right end wall, which faces the quay, there is a shallow canted bay with a 12-pane horned sash window. The left end wall is simpler and connects to a short rear wing, which is finished with scribed render and has two 12-pane horned sash windows. The central bay has 4-pane horned sash windows at the rear.

Inside, the right-hand wing contains a meeting room that overlooks the quay. This room features fluted pilasters around a wooden chimneypiece, a central ceiling rose, and a panelled door. The former dwelling is located on the left side, which has a straight staircase at the rear with a turned newel and plain balusters, leading to the upper storey of the central bay and attic rooms above the left-hand bay.
