Description

Paradox Nightclub, formerly a bonded warehouse, is a four-storey building with five windows, constructed from coursed rubble stone. It features a slate roof on the front slope and a felt-covered roof on the rear projections. The southwest-facing front has a central gablet above the loading bay, while the single-storey rear projections are positioned at upper-storey level, facing the higher ground of Segontium Terrace.

The front openings are adorned with either tooled stone lintels or flat arches made of stone voussoirs. The lower storey includes double central boarded doors beneath a replaced lintel, flanked by blocked windows that sit under voussoirs. To the right, there is a doorway with double doors, and to the left, a narrower doorway, also with double doors, both under lintels. The second storey features central double doors surrounded by shuttered windows, all under flat arches except for the outer windows which have lintels. The third storey has five shuttered windows under lintels, with the central window having a thinner lintel and a brick surround, indicating it may have been altered. A small window with a brick surround has been added to the left.

The upper storey contains five barred sash windows under lintels, with the central window framed in brick. There is also a small paired sash window to the right, positioned beneath the eaves. The windows on the right gable end are all later insertions, with the third storey featuring two blocked windows in brick surrounds. The upper storey has a small-pane sash window to the left of centre and a two-pane sash window to the right, both with brick surrounds. The left gable end includes lintels above vented openings on the third storey.

At the rear, the ground rises steeply, and the building has single-storey projections facing Segontium Street. These projections are topped with a raised coped parapet that faces the street, although much of the detailing is obscured by an applied glazed tile facing.
