Description

The Rise is a house, now functioning as a nursing home, built around 1850. It is constructed of brick with stone and painted stone dressings and features a hipped slate roof. The building is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys and three bays, with a stone plinth and a first-floor sill band. The windows are glazing bar sashes set beneath brick flat arches. The entrance is framed by a pilaster doorcase that includes a plain frieze, a bracketed cornice, and panelled reveals. The door itself is panelled and partly glazed, topped by a plain rectangular overlight. There are two chimneys located behind the ridge. The left-hand return wall, which faces Heslington Road, has two bays with additional glazing bar sash windows. A large 20th-century rear wing has been added. The interior has not been inspected.
