Nursing Home, 13 Minto Street, Edinburgh

This building is a nursing home located at 13 Minto Street in Edinburgh, dating from around 1840 with later alterations in the 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay, near-symmetrical classical house with two-storey wings attached to the north and south, and extensive additions at the rear. The exterior is finished in cream sandstone ashlar, with rubble on the sides and rear. It features a base course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course.

The entrance elevation has a central doorway with a panelled door and a round-arched, plate glass fanlight, flanked by Doric columns supporting a corniced doorpiece. Above the doorway, there is a single window. To the outer right, there is a full-height, three-light canted bay window, while to the outer left, there is a full-height advanced bay with bipartite windows on both floors. The two-storey wing to the north has single windows on both floors, and the south wing features a ground floor doorway with a bipartite window above.

The windows are timber, sash and case with plate glass. The roof is covered in grey slate and has a piended design, with a coursed and coped wallhead stack to the south and a rendered and coped stack to the north, both topped with moulded octagonal cans.
