Description
St Clement's Church Hall is a church hall built in 1933, designed by James Rutherford of the prominent York architectural practice Brierley & Rutherford. The building features a red brick and concrete frame with imitation stone dressings and pantile roofs, along with a chamfered brick plinth.
The main south front has three windows in the center, flanked by single porches at either end. The center section has two slightly projecting brick rusticated pilasters situated between three 3-light casement windows with glazing bars. This part of the building has a low parapet topped with a moulded imitation stone coping. Behind this, there are three large dormer windows, each with a hipped roof and a large 3-light cross casement window. The flanking porches each feature central double doors in moulded imitation ashlar surrounds, accessed by three steps, above which are single oval windows with brick surrounds and four keystones. Each porch is adorned with rusticated brick pilaster-quoins and ornate curved Dutch gables with brick coping.
Inside, the hall is open with side aisles and a raised stage at one end, supported by four arched concrete beams. At the rear, the building is attached to No. 16, Cygnet Street, known as St Clement's Church House.
