Description
The Old House is a house dating from the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations, including a 20th-century extension to the rear. It features a pinkish-brown brick structure with red gauged brick dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The building has a central staircase plan and stands three storeys tall with five bays. The central entrance includes a six-fielded-panel door beneath a fanlight with radial glazing bars, framed by a doorcase with attached columns and an open dentilled pediment. The ground and first floors have 12 and 16-pane sash windows under flat arches of red gauged brick, all with ashlar sills. There are four-course bands on the first and second floors, along with a late 18th-century rainwater head and remnants of a fall pipe. A dentil cornice runs along the top, and ridge stacks feature cogged bands. Inside, there are two open well staircases with turned balusters and Neo-classical pine fireplaces located in the hall, dining room, and first-floor study.
