Description
The gate lodge to Brocklesby Park, built in 1864 for the Brocklesby Estate, is located approximately 70 metres east of the Brocklesby Memorial Arch. This cottage features chalk ashlar with grey brick dressings and stacks, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has a T-shaped layout, consisting of a two-room range with a central projecting single-room wing facing the road. The building is single storey with an attic and has three bays, including a central single-storey wing.
Notable architectural details include a chamfered plinth and raised quoins. There is a board door to the rear extension and a blocked original door to the wing. The front wing has an ashlar canted bay window with chamfered wood mullions set in ashlar reveals, topped with a wooden entablature and a hipped roof. The ground floor features two-light and three-light windows with glazing bars, wood mullions in chamfered brick reveals, and ashlar hood-moulds. The left and right gable ends have similar three-light attic windows, with narrow ventilation slits above. The lodge is adorned with ornate Gothic-style bargeboards with bold finials. The main range has a corniced axial stack with four shafts, while the wing has a similar single-shaft stack. The roofs are finished with ornate banded slates.
