Description
Alderley Lodge is a lodge building dating from the early 19th century, with extensive remodelling in the mid-19th century for the Brocklehurst family. It is constructed of rusticated brick with hammer-dressed buff sandstone dressings and features a purple tile roof with bands of fish scaling and one yellow brick chimney. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front. The lower storey has a stone arcade with depressed elliptical arches and raised imposts, topped with a moulded band. The end bays contain heavy two-light stone mullioned windows with lozenge pane glazing, and the central entrance features a studded board door. Above the entrance, there are similar two-light windows set partly behind the eaves, which oversail on wooden brackets supported by stone corbels. The left end of the building has a semi-circular oriel in the gable, where the roof also oversails. The interior has been altered and is considered undistinguished.
