Description

Vardentown is a farmhouse, now divided into three cottages, dating from the 17th century with an 18th-century addition to the right, and 20th-century alterations. The original structure is timber-framed with plastered infill, while the addition is built of washed brick in an English garden wall bond. The roof is covered with red tiles, and there are three brick chimneys. The building has a long, rectangular plan. The core of the farmhouse features small timber frames, some measuring just 14 inches by 4 inches. The lower storey has three-board doors, two of which are protected by gabled porches. There’s a five-light mullioned window with lattice-leaded glazing, and a similar two-light window. Above these are two four-light wooden casements set within barge-boarded gabled half-dormers, topped with pointed finials; one of these windows also has lattice-leaded glazing. The 18th-century addition has cambered brick heads above three-light wooden casements.
