Description
The Cottage is a house with origins dating from the 17th to early 18th century, located on South Street in Barnetby le Wold. It has undergone later alterations and is constructed of brick that has been colour-washed, topped with a painted pantile roof. The building features a plan with three rooms, a lobby entry, and stairs positioned at the left end, along with a continuous rear outshut and a later outshut on the right end. The gable end faces the street and the house is two low storeys high with two windows.
The entrance has a plain board door to the left, which is situated under a segmental brick arch. To the right of the door, there are three-light and two-light sliding sash windows with glazing bars, both positioned beneath segmental arches. On the first floor, there is a single 12-pane sliding sash window with a lintel at eaves level. The eaves are stepped, and the gables are raised with 19th-century tile coping. There is an axial stack on the left and an end stack on the right.
The left gable end, which faces the street, features a 12-pane sliding sash window on the ground floor beneath a segmental arch, and another similar window on the first floor beneath a timber lintel. Inside, the room to the right contains heavy ceiling beams and exposed joists.
