Description
Barningham Lowes is a house facing north, dating from the 17th century with later additions. It is constructed of brick and has a black unglazed pantile roof. The building consists of a single range with a lobby entrance and features four bays. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a single storey lean-to at each gable end. An off-centre axial stack is located between the first and second bays. The original doorway is obscured by a 19th-century lean-to dairy made of brick and pantiles. There is a later doorway in the third bay, accompanied by an adjacent single storey extension. The ground floor has casement windows in the second and fourth bays, while the first floor has casement windows in the third and fourth bays. The first bay on the ground floor features a horizontal sliding sash window. At the rear, there is a dentil cornice, and doors made of vertical boards lead to the east bay and the adjacent lean-to. Inside, there is a late chimney stack in bay three, and the casement windows have pintle hinges. An attic window is present in the east gable, while the west gable shows tumbled brickwork and a rebuilt internal stack. The roof structure includes collars and staggered purlins, with a staircase located behind the stack. The interior features stop-chamfered beams with jewel stops and incised V patterns, along with 18th-century panelling, which is said to have come from Blickling Hall, located in the second bay on the ground floor.
