Description
Ferndale Farmhouse is a house consisting of two ranges, built in the late 17th century and early 19th century. The front range, dating from the early 19th century, is constructed of gault brick and covered with black glazed pantiles. It stands two storeys tall and features five windows. The facade has a projecting central bay with brick pilasters at either end. There is a central classical porch supported by two fluted Doric columns, which holds a part-glazed double-leaved door with a moulded surround. The sash windows beneath flat arches are adorned with shaped canopies, and there are gable end internal stacks.
The rear range, built in the late 17th or early 18th century, is two storeys with an attic and is made of coursed flint with brick dressings above a moulded brick-capped flint plinth. The upper part of the second storey is finished in brick, and there is a central axial stack that has been rebuilt in gault brick. The fenestration is varied, with the south gable featuring asymmetrical three-light casements with transoms. The north gable includes a sash window on the ground floor, three-light casements on the first floor, and attic windows with square brick moulds. There is a single-storey service wing at the rear to the north and a 20th-century two-storey wing at the rear to the south, which is of no special interest.
