Description
Lodge Cottage is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier, which was encased in brick during the 18th century. It has undergone alterations and extensions in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly at the rear. The building features timber-framing, with plastered-over wall plates visible at the back, and is colourwashed throughout. It has a pantile roof and an L-shaped plan with three rooms, including a later outshut at the angle and an entrance located in the outshut at the rear.
The street-facing side is a single storey with an attic and has two windows. These windows are 12-pane sashes set under segmental brick arches, with a raking dormer to the right that contains an 8-pane sliding sash and rendered cheeks. The roof is steeply pitched, with a brick coped and tumbled gable featuring an end stack on the left and a hipped roof on the right. The right return, which faces Saxby Hall, includes a small casement window on the left with leaded lights and a plain door on the right, along with a raking dormer that has a 4-pane sliding sash. The right side has a brick coped and tumbled gable and an axial stack. Inside, the main rooms feature spine beams, one of which has bead moulding, likely from a later inserted floor.
