Description

This is a late 18th- and early 19th-century house with front railings, altered in 1984. It is constructed of squared limestone, laid in alternating courses of thick and thin stone, with a red brick plinth, gables, and stacks. The roof is covered in pantiles. The front railings stand on an ashlar plinth. The house originally had a central entrance hall front and a rear wing. It is two storeys with an attic, and has a symmetrical three-bay façade. The stonework includes squared limestone quoins. The original doorcase has panelled pilasters, supporting an open pediment with a radial fanlight above a 20th-century door recessed within the reveal. Flanking the door are 20th-century 16-pane casement windows in original openings, which have stucco cambered arches and projecting sills. Similar sash windows are present on the first floor, with a narrower 12-pane window above the entrance. A lead drainpipe is on the right-hand side, featuring an ornamental rainwater head inscribed “W E”, which is likely a reused feature. A plain wooden eaves board runs along the top of the house. The end stacks date from 1775. The gables feature pointed attic windows; the left-hand window retains original Gothic glazing, while the right-hand window has a 20th-century casement. Inside, an open-well staircase has a wreathed handrail and column-on-vase balusters with square knops. The front railings include baluster-shaped posts with urn finials, scrolled bracket supports, vertical bars, and fleur-de-lys finials above a single top rail.
