Description
The main gates to Normanby Park, located 400 metres west of Normanby Hall, were built between 1820 and 1830, likely by Sir Robert Smirke for Sir Robert Sheffield. The structure includes wrought iron gates and railings, ashlar piers, and coping on coursed ironstone rubble dwarf walls. The design is semi-circular with a central entrance. The ornamental, partly gilded gates are hung on square piers featuring chamfered plinths, cornice bands, and ball finials on stepped bases. The flanking walls have chamfered coping, and the railings include decorative panels and posts that end in piers matching those of the gates. This entrance serves as the main gateway to Normanby Park, facing Normanby village.
