Description

The South Lodge Gateway is a gateway structure built between 1820 and 1830 for Sir Robert Sheffield. It features gates, gate-piers, flanking walls, and railings. The gateway is constructed from wrought iron and coursed ironstone rubble, topped with ashlar coping. The design is semi-circular in plan, with a central entrance. The ornate double gates are hung on square piers that have plinth and cornice bands. Dwarf flanking walls with railings extend to similar outer piers. This structure is included for its group value.
