Description

This tombstone, dating from 1835 to 1836, is located approximately 5 metres south-west of Number 92, known as Dent's Cottage. It is made of ashlar stone on a brick base and serves as a chest tomb for Jonathan Dent, who died in 1834. The south side features a weathered inscription, and the tomb is adorned with a moulded cornice that includes square flower moulding and a coped top. Joseph Dent, who owned the nearby cottage, had this tomb erected in memory of his father, Jonathan Dent, who was a Quaker and a notable eccentric in Winterton.
