Description
The gate lodge cottage for Brocklesby Park was built in 1864 for the Brocklesby Estate. It is constructed from chalk ashlar with grey brick dressings and stacks, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building is T-shaped in plan, featuring a two-room range with a central projecting single-room wing facing the road. It is a single storey with an attic and consists of three bays, including a central single-storey single-bay wing.
The lodge has a chamfered plinth and raised quions. The wing has a recessed board door set in a chamfered brick surround, topped with an ashlar hood mould. There is an ashlar canted bay window at the front of the wing, featuring chamfered wood mullions within ashlar reveals, a wooden entablature, and a hipped roof. The ground floor has two-light and three-light windows with glazing bars, wood mullions in chamfered brick reveals, and ashlar hood moulds. The left and right gable ends have similar three-light attic windows, with narrow ventilation slits positioned above them.
The lodge is adorned with ornate Gothic-style bargeboards that have bold finials. It features a corniced axial stack with four shafts on the main range and a similar single-shaft stack on the wing. The roofs are finished with ornate banded slates.
