Description

This is a pair of farm cottages located approximately 75 metres north-east of Sandtoft Grange Farmhouse. They were built in the early 19th century and have undergone some later additions and alterations. The cottages are constructed from brown brick and feature a pantile roof. The design follows a double-depth plan with two rooms and a pair of entrances on the south front.

The south front is two storeys high and consists of four bays arranged symmetrically. There is a board door to the left, which is set beneath a painted flat brick arch, and a similar blocked entrance to the right. Between these entrances are two 16-pane sash windows, each framed by flush wooden architraves with stone sills, all situated beneath channelled stucco flat arches. A three-course brick band runs along the first floor.

On the first floor, there are two similar windows flanked by recessed rectangular panels, all beneath flat brick arches, with the window arches painted. The eaves cornice is dentilled brick, and the roof is hipped with a central corniced ridge stack.

On the left return side, there is a board door beneath a stucco flat arch, flanked by a 16-pane sash window to the right in a similar surround to those on the front, and an unsympathetic 20th-century three-light casement to the left. The first-floor band continues here, with a 16-pane sash window to the left and a small four-pane casement in the centre. This pair of cottages is part of an early 19th-century farm complex.
