Description

Sand Hall Lodge Cottage is a gate lodge cottage built in the mid-19th century for John Brunyee of Sand Hall. It is constructed of brick and has a stucco finish, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building has a hexagonal shape and is a single storey. A 20th-century glazed porch covers the original Gothick panelled door, which features two pointed panels. There are two-light casements on the sides, with sills and Gothick glazing that includes two pointed lights of six panes each. The small diamond panes at the intersections of the iron glazing bars are made of coloured glass with floral motifs. The cottage has deep eaves and a central hexagonal stack. It is complemented by a garden outhouse at Sand Hall and the former south lodge, now known as Dirtness Cottage, located on the south side of the A18 in Belton parish.
