Description

Lodge Cottage is a gate lodge that dates back to the early 19th century, originally serving the former park of Stoughton Grange, which has since been demolished. The cottage features stucco that is lined out with channels to imitate rusticated ashlar masonry. It has gables adorned with elaborately cusped barge boards and a slate roof with diminishing courses, rising to one and a half storeys.

The double gable on the east side is a later addition, designed to match the details of the west wing, and features a Welsh slate roof and renewed windows. A central stack with diagonal flues is located in the west wing, while there is a single flue stack on each gable of the east wing.

The symmetrical west or entrance front includes a gabled arched porch situated beneath a cross gable, which has a moulded quatrefoil light. The gable is crudely pedimented by a moulded entablature. Flanking windows are recessed under 4-centred arches. The south elevation, which faces the road, showcases a gable topped with a crocketted finial and a heraldic relief crest set within a recessed quatrefoil. Additionally, there is a single-storey canted bay window with a moulded cornice, along with side single light casements and a central two-light casement featuring ornate glazing bars.
