Description
Nos 77 to 81 on Fleetgate is an early 19th-century building featuring two storeys constructed from red brick, topped with hipped roofs made of Welsh slate. The building has a wood eaves cornice and includes six windows, one of which is blocked. The windows have rusticated lintels with keystones, and the two windows at No 79 still have their glazing bars and are hung sashes. The ground floor of No 79 is distinguished by plain pilasters and a modillion cornice with an entablature. The entrance features a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight above it. There is a round-headed passage archway leading to No 81, which has a stone head with a keystone and a double door of six panels, along with an unglazed fanlight with wood bars. This section has one window with a rusticated lintel and keystone. The right-hand building has a doorway with plain pilasters, an entablature, and a modillion cornice, featuring a modern door and a rectangular fanlight. The building also has a 19th-century shop front with a modillion cornice and pilasters, similar to the other side. Nos 65 to 73 (odd), Fleetgate Post Office, and Nos 77 to 85 (odd) Fleetgate House form a group.
