Description

The dovecote at Irby Dales Farm, built in 1855, is located approximately 150 metres west of the farmhouse. This structure is made of brick and is whitewashed, featuring a Welsh slate roof. It has an octagonal shape and serves as the centerpiece of the south side of the crew yard. The dovecote is two storeys high, with each face displaying round-arched recessed panels on both floors, separated by a two-course brick band.

On the south side, there is a recessed round-headed plank door with strap hinges, flanked by segmental-headed cast-iron windows that have six panes above ventilation grilles. The first floor features an inscribed datestone above the door and a panel to the left that includes two rows of three dove-holes. The eaves are stepped, and the roof is hipped and octagonal in shape.

Inside, the ground floor once housed a horse engine used to pump water into a tank above, which supplied the farmyard. The remaining space on the first floor is occupied by dove nesting holes.
