Description
The Woollen Warehouse, formerly known as the Wool Exchange, is a warehouse built around 1870, now functioning as a shop and offices. It is constructed of brick with red sandstone dressings and features a plain tile roof. The building has a ground-floor sill band and cornice, a panelled second-floor cornice with flat brackets, and moulded and dentillated eaves.
This four-storey structure, plus basement, has a five-window range. The windows are primarily segment-headed single-pane casements with toplights. The first and second floors each have five windows separated by pilasters, with recessed panels beneath the windows. The third floor features five smaller windows. On the ground floor, to the left, there is an ashlar doorcase with long curved brackets and a broken segmental pediment that contains a crest. The entrance includes a panelled double door with a segment-headed overlight and a lintel adorned with a swag. To the right of the entrance, there are four wooden-framed cross casements. The basement has four square two-light casements set behind railings.
