Description
The statue of Andrew Marvell is located on the north side of South Church Side in Kingston upon Hull. Created by William Day Keyworth junior between 1867 and 1902, this white marble statue stands on a colored granite plinth and limestone base. The figure is depicted in 17th-century dress and faces north, mounted on a square pedestal with a chamfered plinth and a moulded top, which features an inscription on the front. The statue is raised on a late 20th-century square limestone base consisting of four steps, each corner topped with a ball finial. The statue's damaged left hand was remodelled in 1999. It was presented to the city by Councillor John Winship in 1867 and was originally placed in the Town Hall. Since then, it has been relocated multiple times: to the corner of Smeaton Street, George Street, and Savile Street in 1902; to the corner of Bond Street and George Street in 1922; to the grounds of William Gee School in 1963; and finally to its current location in 1999.
