Description

6 Baker Street is a former public house, originally known as The Sherlock Holmes Public House, located in Kingston upon Hull. The building dates back to 1879, with an addition made in a matching style in 1910. It features a combination of ashlar and brick construction, with granite and ashlar dressings, topped by a slate roof that has shaped coped gables and ball finials.

The structure has a plinth, a ground floor sill band, and a coped panelled parapet. It stands two storeys high, plus garrets, and has a ten-window range. The first floor includes two central bays and single end bays, which are defined by panelled pilasters that rise through the parapet to form panelled pedestals. The windows are plain sashes, with two in the centre and those at each end featuring semicircular wrought-iron balconies. Other windows have shaped aprons.

On the ground floor, there is a moulded cornice supported by scroll keystones of the segment-headed windows. The off-centre doorway is framed by paired granite pilasters and a segmental pediment, leading to a panelled double door with a segment-headed overlight. To the right of the doorway is a window flanked by rusticated pilasters, followed by three plain sash windows. To the left of the doorway, there is a similar window flanked by rusticated pilasters, and to the right, another window flanked by paired granite pilasters under a segmental pediment. The right gable features a round garret window with four keystones, and on the ground floor, there are two segment-headed plain sashes with brick surrounds and keystones.
