Description
Three houses, now offices and shops, built around 1820, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. The houses are constructed of brick, with a rendered gable on the left, painted ashlar dressings, and artificial slate roofs topped with two ridge stacks. A basement string course, moulded gutter, and brackets are present. Number 6, on the left, has a first-floor band, while numbers 7 and 8 feature a first-floor cornice. The houses are three storeys high plus basements, with a nine-window range. The windows are plain sashes with slightly segmental heads and splayed lintels. On the first floor, each house has three windows, and above those, three smaller windows. The basement level has two windows to the left, and to the right, a wooden doorcase supported by Tuscan columns and an entablature, leading to a door approached by stone steps with cast-iron balustrades. The door is a six-panelled design with a fanlight. The basement has late 20th-century window openings. Outside, slender cast-iron area railings and gates match the balustrades to the steps. Group value derives from being a cohesive example of early 19th-century urban housing.
