Description
GOOLE HOOK ROAD SE 7523 (north-west side)
15/67 Windmill tower approximately 30 metres north-west of junction with Axholme Street
- II Windmill tower. late C18 - early C19. Tarred yellow-orange brick. 5-storey tapered round tower. Ground floor: original board door to south, window to west and inserted board door to east beneath original window arch. First floor: blocked doors to east and west, window to south beneath C20 altered square head, with another window above. Second floor: windows to east and west. Third floor: window to south, blocked windows to north, east and west. Fourth and fifth floors: single windows to south, blocked windows to north. Door and windows to south are in line, those to other sides are slightly irregular. All original door and window openings beneath segmental header arches; windows with stone sills. Dentilled and cogged brick cornice. Interior. First floor intact, upper floors fragmentary; not inspected.
