Description
31 Westgate is an early 19th-century brick building that stands two storeys high. It features a Welsh slate roof with an eaves parapet and has vermiculated rusticated quoins. The exterior is currently covered in cement render. On either side of the entrance, there are two three-light bays with hung sashes that include glazing bars. The entrance itself is framed by a Doric-style porch with reeded pilasters and ornamental animal mask capitals. Above the door, there is a frieze decorated with a relief design of vine and grapes, and a semi-circular fanlight with ornamental tracery. The door consists of six fielded panels and is accessed by four steps, with a plinth at the base. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 7 to 31 (odd) and the Avenue Hospital, stables, and wall, with No 21 (formerly No 19) noted for its local interest.
