Description
Nearmarsh Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and has a pantile roof. The building is L-shaped in plan, featuring a central entrance hall on the south front with two rooms, and a central entrance hall wing to the rear left, along with an outshut in the angle. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays, presenting a symmetrical facade.
There is a step leading up to a recessed six-fielded-panel door, which is topped by a three-pane overlight set within an eared architrave. The windows are 16-pane sashes set in flush wooden architraves, and the eaves are stepped. The raised gables are finished with tumbled-in brick, and there are end stacks.
On the left return, there is another six-fielded-panel door with a four-pane overlight in an architrave beneath a segmental arch, flanked by 16-pane sashes. To the right of the front range, there is a 12-pane sash window. On the first floor, there is a small 12-pane sash above the entrance, flanked by 16-pane sashes, and an attic board hatch to the gable of the front range. The raised gable is also finished with tumbled-in brick and has axial and end stacks. The interior retains original details, including the staircase, although it has not been investigated.
