OTTRINGHAM SUNK ISLAND ROAD TA 22 SE (east side, off) 6/28 Ottringham Grange Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. Early C19; service range to right demolished c1970. Brick in Flemish bond with pantile roof. Double-depth plan with 2-room, central entrance-hall south front. 2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. Step to projecting Doric porch with columns carrying plain entablature and flat hood; pilasters flanking 6-fielded-panel door and radial fanlight in plain reveal. 16-pane sashes in recessed architraves with sandstone ashlar sills and rubbed-brick flat arches. Bracketed wooden gutter. Double-span roof with tumbled-in brick to raised gables, end stacks. 12-pane sashes to left return and rear. Interior. Hall has open well staircase with ramped and wreathed handrail, fluted stick balusters and column newels; moulded cornice, 6-fielded-panel doors in panelled architraves with lion's head ornament. Moulded cornice to ground floor left. Ground floor right has acanthus ceiling rose and plasterwork frieze with grapevine and corn motifs, later C19 marble chimney-piece.
