Description
Ottringham Grange Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse located on the east side of Sunk Island Road. It is built of brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. The house has a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and a symmetrical south front consisting of two rooms. It stands two storeys high and has three bays.
The entrance is marked by a projecting Doric porch supported by columns, which carry a plain entablature and flat hood. The porch flanks a six-fielded-panel door topped by a radial fanlight set in a plain reveal. The windows are 16-pane sashes with recessed architraves, sandstone ashlar sills, and rubbed-brick flat arches. A bracketed wooden gutter runs along the eaves. The roof is double-span with tumbled-in brick at the raised gables and end stacks. The left return and rear of the house feature 12-pane sashes.
Inside, the hall boasts an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail, fluted stick balusters, and column newels. The hall also has a moulded cornice and six-fielded-panel doors set in panelled architraves adorned with lion's head ornaments. The ground floor left room features a moulded cornice, while the right room has an acanthus ceiling rose and a plasterwork frieze decorated with grapevine and corn motifs, along with a later 19th-century marble chimney-piece. The service range to the right was demolished around 1970.
