BEVERLEY NORTH BAR WITHOUT (east side) Nos 6 and 8

GV II Late C18, remodelled by J E Elwell, 1890. Two storeys and attic, applied half timbering to first floor above brick ground floor with stone rustication. Two gabled dormers and five to side elevation. Polygonal tourelle of two storeys to corner with candle-snuffer roof. One small window of two lights and a three-light oriel to first floor. Shop window and a four-light mullion and transom window to ground floor. Four-panel door to corner, two panels glazed below carved oak overdoor panel signed by W Thorley, 1892, 'The Political Cheap Jack'. This panel is supposed to relate to Disraeli. Richly modillioned and coloured coved eaves cornice. This building was used by Elwell as part of his premises. See also No 4.
