Description

This is a late 18th century, 1793-4, townhouse built in red brick with a plain tile roof and a stone cornice to the parapet, constructed by William Middleton. The house is three storeys high and four windows wide, with an additional window on the return angle. It features near flush frame sash windows without glazing bars, and a cill band on the first floor. The entrance is marked by a wooden doorcase with slender Doric applied columns, a plain entablature, a shaped bracketed cornice, and a pediment, above which is a patterned radial bar fanlight. The house is built onto the North Bar and forms an important element alongside it, occupying an angled site where it abuts the buildings between it and St Mary’s Manor and Church.
