Description
No. 11 Saturday Market is an 18th-century building featuring two storeys and an attic, constructed from painted brick. The roof is covered with scallop slates and includes a pedimented sliding casement dormer. The building has a dentil eaves cornice and two nearly flush frame windows without glazing bars, which are topped with stone lintels that serve as flat arches, each featuring incised keystones.
The ground floor showcases a shop front with wide glazing bars and two entrances framed in wood cases with pilasters and an entablature. Inside, the principal room on the ground floor is adorned with fielded panelling throughout and boasts a fine chimneypiece with a carved architrave, a moulded frieze, and a cornice. The overmantel is also panelled and features a carved architrave, an arch with a keystone, and moulded imposts and voussoirs leading to the staircase.
The staircase is designed with an open string and lacks newels, presenting a pseudo-cantilevered appearance. The balusters are turned in the lower section and spiral twisted above, with fielded panelling reaching dado height on the opposite wall. The upstairs rooms are wainscoted to dado level and include panelled window seats. One of the upstairs chimneypieces, dating from the late 19th century, features mantling and ornamental tiles.
