Description
The Bell Hotel is an early 19th-century hotel located on the east side of Driffield Market Place. It is constructed of brick that has been rendered and colorwashed, with stone dressings and a slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and features four bays arranged in a 2:1:1 pattern, with the entrance bay recessed. A Doric porch with twin detached columns and flanking pilasters leads into the hotel. All windows are 16-pane sashes, each with stone sills and architraves. There are bands separating the first and second floors, and a moulded eaves cornice. The building has end and axial stacks with decorative bands. A distinctive wrought-iron screen is located at the second floor level over the porch, featuring a diamond pattern railing, a bunch of grapes with vine leaves, and a suspended bell. Inside, there is an early 19th-century cut string staircase with brackets, turned balusters, and a wreathed handrail.
