Description
This is a house located at 23 Exchange Street, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, features a timber eaves cornice, and has a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and four bays, arranged in a 1:1:2 pattern. There is a direct entry with two stone steps leading to the main door, which has six raised and fielded panels beneath a fanlight with curved radial glazing bars, all set in panelled reveals. The doorcase is adorned with fluted pilasters and a dentilled pediment. To the left of the right end bay, there is a boarded service door. All windows are 16-pane sashes with stone sills and wedge lintels, except for a similar 12-pane sash over the door and to the right bay of the ground floor. The house features end and axial stacks with bands. Inside, there is an early 19th-century cut string staircase with a turned newel, fluted balusters, and a ramped handrail.
