GV II

House. 1711, altered late C18, restored c1990. Red brick, partly rendered, with pantile roof and raised, tumbled gables plus a single gable stack. 2 storey plus garret. Street front, has a doorway to right with 6-panel door and tripartite overlight in moulded wooden surround. To the left a C20 tripartite glazing bar sash. Above a late C18, bow window with tripartite glazing bar sash. Interior. Retains many original features including staircase with square newels and turned balusters with knops and moulded hand rail, top flight to garret has plain square balusters. Ground floor front room has plaster coving and 2 cupboards with original panel doors. Upper floor rooms also retain cupboards with panel doors. Most doors survive, mostly 6-panel with moulded surrounds. Beams and floorboards also survive. Roof retains original collar beam and purlins. This house was converted (with the adjoining house, Pritchett House) into a shop with upper floor showrooms in the late C18. The building was converted into an Institute c1900.
