GV II

House, former Institute and shop. 1751, altered late C18, c1900 and c1960. Red brick, partly rendered, with pantile roof and raised tumbled gables with single gable stack. 2 storeys plus garret. Street front, 3 windows. Central doorway with 6-panel door and fanlight, plus open pedimented wooden door surround with pilasters and panelled returns. Flanked by tripartite casements, that to left c1960, and that to right c1900. Above a central glazing bar sash, flanked by single bow windows, both tripartite glazing bar sashes. Interior. Ground floor room to right retains original wooden fire surround with eaved panel over mantle and flanking round headed cupboards with pairs of 3-panel doors and pilaster surround with moulded arch and keystone, plus original shaped shelves. Moulded dentilated cornice. 6-panel door with moulded surround. Room to left has stone fireplace c1900. Upper floor room has 2 original fireplaces with moulded wooden surrounds. Roof c1900. This house was built for Marmaduke Pritchett. It was converted (with the adjoining house, Leason House) into a shop with upper floor showrooms in the late C18. The building was converted into an Institute c1900.
