Description
House at 89 York Road, built in the early 19th century, is constructed of red brick with a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and features three bays with a central entry plan. The entrance has a six-panel door set within a doorcase that includes Roman Doric pilasters and an entablature. To the left, there is a similar 19th-century shopfront, while to the right is a 16-pane sash window with a sill, situated under a channelled wedge lintel that has a projecting keyblock decorated with a feather motif. The first and second floors have similar windows, with the central opening being blind in both cases. The house has end stacks and plain close verges. Notably, this house was the residence of William Bradley, known as the Market Weighton Giant, who was recorded as the tallest Englishman at 7 feet 9 inches and weighed 27 stones at the time of his death in 1820.
