Description
Nos 32 to 35 on Saturday Market in Beverley are buildings from the 17th century or earlier, with a brick front added in the 18th century. They are likely timber-framed and stand two storeys high, finished in painted brick. The parapet has lost its original wooden cornice, as shown in old drawings. In the center of the property, there is a fluted lead rainwater head and fall pipe.
The buildings feature six windows, two of which are blocked and two have had their glazing bars replaced. Nos 32 and 33 boast attractive bow-windowed shop fronts with panelled stone bases, pilasters, reeded consoles, and simple entablatures. The doors on these shops have lost their glazing bars. No 34 has a later 18th-century canted shop front with simple details and retains its original glazing in both the window and door. The door of No 34 is fitted with 18th-century iron latches and hinges.
Inside, there are various planked 18th-century doors with contemporary hinges and latches, as well as two newel stairs. The buildings have crown post trusses, with crown posts featuring jowled bands, collar purlins, and braces to tie-beams.
