Description
Cherry Burton House is a house built in 1829 and restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed of light brown brick and features slate roofs. The building has two storeys and five bays, arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, with a recessed three-storey, two-bay wing to the right and a single-storey, three-bay wing at the extreme right.
The central entrance consists of a door with six raised and fielded panels, topped with an overlight and flanked by sidelights, all set within a tetrastyle Ionic portico. This is flanked by 15-pane unequal sash windows. There is a band at the first floor level, which features five 12-pane sash windows with sills beneath flat gauged brick arches. The building has a low parapet, with end and axial stacks and a hipped roof.
The right wing has 12-pane sashes with sills under flat gauged brick arches on both the ground and first floors, and similar 9-pane unequal sashes on the second floor. It also has a coped parapet and a hipped roof. The additional wing to the right contains three 12-pane sashes with sills under slightly cambered gauged brick arches, with blank rectangular panels above. There is an axial stack with blank round-headed panels on each face and a hipped roof.
Inside, the house retains original panelled shutters and panelled doors throughout. There is a stone cantilevered and curved staircase with turned balusters. The dining room features moulded plaster coving, dado panelling, and a grey marble fireplace. The billiard room has similar dado panelling, while the drawing room includes plaster panelling and an original white marble fireplace.
