Description
The gatepiers, screen walls, and pavilions at Low Hall date from the late 17th century or early 18th century and have undergone later alterations. Constructed from limestone ashlar and red brick, the screen walls stand approximately 10 feet high and feature central gatepiers with later blocking between them, flanked by single-storey, single-bay pavilions. The gatepiers are made of ashlar, with moulded plinths, panelled sides, moulded capitals, and stem bases that once supported ball finials, which are now located on the driveway. Each side of the gatepiers has semi-circular ashlar niches with moulded sills. The brick walls are topped with chamfered stone copings. The left pavilion includes a timber cross window set in a quoined stone surround, with rebuilt brickwork at the right corner and a full-height ashlar pilaster at the left corner. It features an eaves band and a plain parapet. The right pavilion has a 19th-century window, a similar ashlar pilaster as the left pavilion, and an embattled parapet.
