Description
Christ Church is a church built between 1862 and 1863 by architects Cunningham and Audsley. It is constructed from snecked stone and features a roof made of hexagonal slates. The church has a four-bay nave, a northwest tower with a spire, a transept, a chancel, and a south vestry. The nave at the west end has stepped triple lancets, with the central lancet featuring tracery; above it is a roundel that displays an interlaced star of David. On the south side, there are alternating two-light windows with Geometrical tracery set between weathered buttresses. The gabled porch has diagonal buttresses, a single-order entrance, and three-light side windows with colonnettes.
The tower on the north side has angle buttresses, a two-light west window, and a similar window on the north side with a rose window above it. There is a canted stair turret with an entrance in the square base to the east. The tower features stepped triple louvred bell-openings, a corbelled cornice with gargoyles, octagonal crocketed pinnacles, and a broach spire with three tiers of lucarnes. The north transept has angle buttresses and a north spherical triangle window. The two-bay chancel includes angle buttresses, a four-light east window, and paired lancets on the north and south sides. The vestry has a segmental-pointed entrance, a dripstone, and a blind light above.
