Description

This is a terrace of nine houses located at 51-59 Lower Road, and also including 66-72 (even numbers) Central Road, in Port Sunlight. The houses were built in 1906, designed by J. Lomax Simpson. Their construction combines roughcast rendering, timber framing, a brick base, some weatherboarding, and a stone slate roof.

The terrace is two storeys high, with a seven-bay canted angle. Five bays face Lower Road, while two bays face Central Road. The angled section is timber framed, while the remainder is roughcast with weatherboarded first floors. A central projecting gabled bay has a jettied first floor and gable. The second and sixth bays also project under gables, each with a jettied first floor. Windows are leaded casements with three or four lights. The central rectangular bay window has leaded glazing, a first-floor bowed oriel window above, and hipped half-dormers on either side. The facade facing Central Road has a jettied first floor supported by a coving, and features paired gablets on the first floor. Entrances are accessed via small-paned light lean-to porches. There are nine brick stacks. The rear elevation is roughcast, with gables and small-paned casements.
