Description

A terrace of five houses at 14-22 Park Road, Bebington, built between 1893 and 1894 by William Owen as part of the Port Sunlight model village. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings, incorporating timber framing and tile hanging, and have a tile roof with gablets. They are arranged as one storey with an attic, featuring five bays, with the second and third bays slightly jettied and having gabled first floors beneath hipped roofs. A string course runs above the ground floor, and a pargetted frieze above displays scrollwork depicting human figures, birds, beasts, and cartouches, one of which includes the date 1893. The windows are small-paned casements; the ground floor features single-chamfered-mullioned windows with decorative heads, typically of three lights, with a four-light window at each end. The first floor has three-light windows, with those in the second and fourth bays set within gabled half-dormers, and a larger tile-hung gabled half-dormer over the end bay. The entrances have canopies, plank doors with three leaded lights, and boot scrapers. Five chimney stacks are positioned across the front of the terrace. The rear elevation features tile-hung gabled bays and privies.
