Entwood

Entwood is a private house built in 1959 by architect Dewi Prys Thomas. The building features white painted Tyrolean-rendered brick walls and concrete tile roofs. It is designed in a pinwheel plan with grouped pavilions and quarter-pyramid roofs. The entrance is located at the angle between the garage and the house, featuring a cantilevered platform in front of the door, which is part of a low link block with dark timber side panels and a canopy above. To the right, a projecting pavilion has a large window. The garden side of the house forms an L-shape, with a double-height room in the right-hand block, illuminated by a tall window and a garden door to the right. The left-hand block has a single window. Inside, the house has open timber ceilings and tiled floors. This design showcases an interesting and novel plan form and roof structure, reflecting the vernacular style that the architect is known for.
