Description

The perimeter wall surrounding the lighthouse, lighthouse cottages, and observatory compound in Birkenhead was built in 1866. It is constructed from rusticated ashlar stone and features a smooth stone coping. The west gateway has a deeply chamfered segmental arch with imposts, and the gable is topped with heavy coping, Gothic kneelers, and a finial. This structure is included for its group value with the adjacent buildings.
