Description
This is a terrace of four houses located at 49 to 55 Wood Street in Port Sunlight, built in 1895 by architects Douglas and Fordham. The houses are constructed of brick with granite-chip rendering on the gables and feature a tiled roof. They are two stories high and consist of eight bays. There is a string course above the ground floor, and the first floor has a distinctive diaper pattern. The windows are made of brick mullions and consist of four segmental-headed lights with leaded glazing. The central and end bays on the first floor have windows set in projecting panels with gablets, while the other bays have single lights. The entrances are elliptical-headed and have doors with vertical strips, strap hinges, and leaded lights. The houses also feature a cross-axial stack and projecting gable-end stacks with canted angles, which have single lights on the ground floor. The rear of the houses is similar in design and includes privies.
