Description
This is a terrace of seven houses located on Pool Bank in Port Sunlight. Built in 1899 by architects Douglas and Minshull, number 55 was destroyed in the war and subsequently rebuilt in 1947. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings, incorporating pebbledash on the first floor and a tile roof. They are arranged as two storeys with seven bays, with the two end bays projecting and gabled. A ground floor cornice runs along the facade, and the central bay is flanked by raking buttresses. The ground floor windows are double-chamfered mullioned, with five lights in each bay, the end bays having four lights, all with leaded glazing. The first floor has five-light leaded casements in the gabled bays, while the other bays feature four-light windows within gabled half-dormers. The entrances are distinguished by decorated lintels and plank doors with two leaded lights, with the end bays having paired doors set beneath flat canopies. The building features three cross-axial and return lateral chimney stacks. The rear elevation mirrors the front, with plaster on the first floor, raking dormers, paired gables, and privies.
