Description
This is a group of four houses at 17-23 Corniche Road, Port Sunlight, built in 1899 by the renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The houses are constructed of brick with roughcast on the central bays, a brick base, and tile hanging on the first floors of the end bays. They have tile roofs. The houses are two storeys high with four bays. The central bays are recessed beneath gables, while the end bay has a hipped gable. There are two projecting porch blocks with hipped roofs, connected to the main roof by narrow strips. The windows are small-paned casements, mostly of three lights. The window in the first bay's ground floor extends around the corner. The first floor has Venetian windows in the central bays, and a three-light window in the end bay. The porch blocks have canted angles with four-panel doors and small flanking lights. Chimneys are located in a cross-axial position, at the left return gable end, and laterally on the right return. The rear elevation is similarly constructed and includes plaster on the first floor and privies.
